Jonathan Appoints Vice-Chancellors for Five New Federal Universities
ABUJA — President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the immediate appointment of Vice-Chancellors for five newly established federal universities, comprising four universities of education and one specialized university of health sciences.
The appointments were announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the Federal Ministry of Education. The notice, which was signed by Mr. Sul Ya’u Sule, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Relations and Protocol to the then Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, confirmed the new helmsmen for the institutions.
The appointments, effective immediately, are expected to kickstart the full academic and administrative operations of the universities.
The newly appointed Vice-Chancellors and their respective institutions are:
Prof. Martins Aghaji – Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State
Prof. Richard King – Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo
Prof. Sadiq Abubakar – Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri
Prof. Victor Awonusi – Federal University of Education, Kano
Prof. Ibrahim Kolo – Federal University of Education, Zaria
In a related development, President Jonathan also approved the appointment of Dr. Nnamdi Olebara, the Special Adviser on Media to Minister Shekarau, as a member of the Governing Council for the Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri.
The move marks a significant step towards institutionalizing the newly converted or established federal institutions and ensuring their prompt take-off under experienced leadership.
