COREN Partners with Coleman to Advance Engineering Skills and Local Content Development
Abuja, Nigeria — Under the visionary leadership of Engr. Prof. S. Z. Abubakar, President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the council has taken a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s engineering ecosystem. COREN recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coleman Technical Industries Limited (Coleman) to explore strategic opportunities in engineering skills development, local content enhancement, and the power sector.
The partnership underscores COREN’s commitment to fostering innovation and capacity building within Nigeria’s engineering profession. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Abubakar emphasized that the collaboration aligns with COREN’s mandate to regulate and promote engineering excellence while supporting national industrial growth.
“This MoU is a milestone in our efforts to bridge skill gaps, encourage indigenous participation, and ensure sustainable development in critical sectors such as power,” Prof. Abubakar stated.
Coleman, a leading manufacturer of electrical cables and wires, brings technical expertise and industry experience to the partnership. The collaboration aims to:
- Develop specialized training programs for engineers and technicians.
- Promote local content in engineering projects to reduce dependence on imports.
- Support innovation in the power sector, ensuring reliable and efficient energy solutions.
Industry stakeholders have lauded the initiative as a timely intervention to address Nigeria’s infrastructural challenges and create opportunities for young engineers. The MoU is expected to pave the way for joint research, technical workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s engineering workforce.
With Prof. Abubakar at the helm, COREN continues to champion policies and partnerships that position engineering as a driver of national development.
